- 2Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
- 3Scan the QR code
- 4Save with a label like Japan Data
- 5Turn on Cellular Data after arriving in Japan

How to check if your SIM is unlocked
Your device needs to be SIM-unlocked to use an eSIM.
iPhone
Go to Settings → General → About — look at the "SIM Lock" field (good to go if it says "No SIM restrictions")
Android
Look under "About phone" in Settings. If it's unclear, ask your carrier.
